Mourne Mountain Way Marathon Announced

Just a quick post for all of our runners out there,  a new off road mountain marathon has been announced recently, taking place in the Mournes,  Co Down on June 13th.

This is a Marathon which is almost entirely off road. The event date is Saturday 13 June 2009.

In addition to the Marathon there will also be a Half Marathon and a 10k run/walk incorporated into the route – these races, like the Marathon, will also finish in Kilbroney Park, Rostrevor. There will also be a “Challenge Walk” on the day along the full 26 mile route of the Mourne Way.

The main event will see competitors race the 26 miles of the Mourne Way from Newcastle to Rostrevor, Co Down. This route is a linear route, almost entirely off road, traversing the foothills of the Mourne Mountains passing Tollymore Forest, Fofanny Dam, Spelga Dam, Leitrim Lodge and Yellow Water before arriving at the finish in Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor.

As mentioned there are 3 races  the marathon a Half Marathon and a 10k run/walk this give people of all abilities a chance to take part.

The course is fully waymarked so there is no need for navigation or worrying about getting lost.  So you all  have plenty of notice to arrange travel and no excuse to get out and get training now.

    1. Yes everyone who finishes the Marathon, Challenge Walk and the Half Marathon will get a T Shirt. Everyone who finishes the 10k will get a medal.

  1. will their be any medals this year for the marathon-ultra?
    i ran the marathon last year and thoroughly enjoyed it,
    shame only the 10k race finishers received a medal.

    i would be more than happy to pay that bit extra for the medal.

    Yes there will be medals for all participants this year. Coming from an adventure racing background I was unaware of the importance of a medal to runners. We amended our policy for the Causeway Coast Marathon and gave everyone a medal and T shirt.

  3. Hey I’m considering doing the ultra marathon I’m just wondering if there’s a place for someone who’s never done one before or is it a competitive race?
