from The North Face
Update:We are no longer stock the P-8 jacket and instead recommend the Berghaus RG Delta or The North Face Sequence waterproof jackets.
The Men’s Resolve Jacket has for many years been the North Face’s flagship budget lightweight waterproof jacket, ideal for walking, trekking, around town or as a car coat for inclement weather. However, in my opinion the Resolve is starting to look its age, it seems that the North Face may agree as they have brought out the P-8 Waterproof Jacket.
The The North Face P-8 has the same RRP as the Resolve Jacket, yet the P-8 is, in my opinion, significantly better than the Resolve!
P-8 Jacket Features
In the P-8, The North Face have gone for a more refined look and have a created a soft to touch Polyester Hyvent 2L outer-shell, this reduces noise when moving, removes the shiney look of nylon and produces a jacket which for casual use looks a lot more expensive than it is. Added to this are high quality zips and both an internal and an external storm zip baffle where many other jackets of a similar price, including the Resolve, only have one.

The P-8’s inner is made from a combination of lining and mesh, this combination adds some more robustness and insulation compared with an all mesh lining, whilst not reducing breathabilty significantly. The P-8’s arms are fully lined in a soft feel fabric which increases comfort levels, whereas the Resolve has mesh lined arms.

Unlike many budget jackets the P-8 has robust Velcro Cuff Adjusters rather than an elasticated sleeve, this in my opinion adds to the jackets looks as well as it’s functionality as the sleeve does not ride up your arm and stay there, as with elasticated sleeves, although elasticated sleeves are really useful if you need to roll you sleeves up for work or are going for a 1980’s look!
The functionality of the P-8 is further improved by the design of the “roll away” hood, the hood has been stiffened ensuring that hood’s edge does not stick to you and soak you though, and it is easy to roll away and adjust thanks to the robust fasteners and adjusters.
Is the P-8 Worth It?
The P-8 is much more than a Resolve Jacket on steroids! The North Face have in the P-8 improved upon every feature of the Resolve in my opinion, it is head and shoulders better, it looks better, feels better and its features provide more comfort, functionality and inspires user confidence.
Is it worth the extra money? Yes! I believe it is!
Cool! I am really a fan of the brand.
